Last Entry …

Finally this whole blogging process had come to an end.
This is my final blogging and I think I would end my blogging life here.
These few weeks had been quite a new experience for me as I never blog before as I think blogging is troublesome with the change of the “skin” and many many stuffs.

With the expansion of internet services and the many website and news internet got to offer us, it is inevitable for people not to stick or even touch their computer for 1 day.

Electronic communication is an instantaneous and illusory contact that creates a sense of intimacy without the emotional investment that leads to close friendships. A quote taken from Clifford Stoll, Silicon Snake Oil, 1995

We do use internet to converse and develop relationship, all sorts of relationship can be found in the internet.

All these platforms are there for us to communicate and we bulid a sense of belonging to that particular website or place we frequent online.

Oops not forgetting that BLOG is also a nice place to communicate. =)

POWER of MEDIA!

Since the early 1900s, media start influencing and dictating the way we live our life and the way we do things.
Reading newspaper, a common sight found in singapore or maybe else where, a good way to gain knowledge and at the same time being brainwash by advertisements or hidden agenda by the goverenment. Newspaper take the form of a hard copy and laid up in a 2-D format, every piece of information is placed in together with the print advertisement to maximize the use of any space.

Look at this leaflet from the Nazi era, this picture shows that the machine ( which is USA ) is liberating Europe but at the same time shows how this machine destroy the hometown of European.

Look at how the NAZIs draw this picture, they drew them as a machine with bombs as their leg that seems to be destroying the hometown of European. The machine also had 4 arms holding money , grenades and a prisoner sleeve shirt with a hand holding a gun firing at the town of Europe … this shows that the Americans are here to get money and for their own personal interest and ruining them.

The ironic part about this picture is that the Nazis drew a American right at the top of the machine blowing trumpet and she seems like one of the native American and she is like telling the world that Americans are here to “rescue” everyone from their misery.

This is one of the example of early mass communication style, i believe that media started off as a form of not educating people but to feed them information the way the government want it to be and brainwash them!

GroupWork … …

Groups Groups Groups….
Everywhere we go, we will be mostly in a group, rarely alone.
In school we have our group project (usually)… Outside school we have our usual shopping or gaming gang.
Why are people always in group?
There are always many conflicts and differences between members in the group and in terms of communication, Girl A might not understand Girl B.

Why bother working or staying in a group where you can most likely handle the situation yourself?
Researchers had found out a effect known as group synergy, something extraordinary will happen to the group members and the idea and stuff these people do normally exceeded what they can archive on their own !

*No wonder people who play politics are never alone.
*No wonder a war is fought by many people.

We communicate differently in different context and with different group of people. For example, you wont speak to your boss the same way you speak to your subordinate? ( This applies to majority of people )

In a group, there will be a leader always, next followed by the 2nd in power and most people are the follower who just follow whatever the boss says.

Well Well Well……

It is time for more people to be leader? instead of being a follower in society?

Let us look at this picture before I move on to talk about the situation.
I think that the ISD did a very good job creating this picture as it shows the 2 different look of Mas Selamat.
The picture is clear and together with a short description, I think we would be able to hunt him down soon.

Next I would like to talk about the delay of releasing news to the public about Mas selamat escaping.
The first hour when he escape from the toilet of the detention center, nearby police post and center were called in to reinforce on the hunt for this Ex JI leader. They thought they could cover it up, but soon the road blocks and many police and soldiers soon alarmed the resident around the area. Now after 2 weeks or so… he is still missing… how is anyone going to answer for it?

Is the only solution to this problem is that our DPM – HOME DEF minister Wong XXX XXXX going to step down?
That is not a true solution to this problem.

I argee with WP Chairwoman Slyvia Lim that a president inquiry committee to be set up so that the channels of communication from the government can be pass down to the general public and noting that sensitive high security issues may be not released to the general public.

Is there anyway they can step up thier search?
Is there anyway that they can communicate better will people on the ground (like us) ?

I applaude the decision by the major phone subscriber to send MMS to show the face of Mas selamat around and to raise awareness of his escape. But even days after his escape, there are still Singaporean who are having no idea what is going on ! ( This is a very good way of communication as many people have their handphone 24/7 with them )

The Leap Year

Today is 29th Feb 2008.

It is time to spice up my dull blog with some pictures !

This is a local made film … as you can see the title is The Leap Years.
It is not a comedy but a romance movie.
duhh~

Ok, What i want to talk about in this movie is not about the scene or whatever.
I am going to talk about Knapp’s Relational development Model.
This model has 10 stages and i am focusing on the first five, which is …
-Initiating
-Experimenting
-Intensifying
-Integrating
-Bonding

They made a promise to meet every 4 years when the guy initiate the idea to do so, they really did experiment that out and they meet at the same place, same time every 4 years. They intensify their meeting and integrate but they did not do the bonding part (which is to get married) . They end up ………… ( i think they broke up or something .)

Whatever is the case.
I feel that this is a nice show!
Most importantly it is a MIS SHOW! ( made in singapore )
And this show is unlike any other jack Xxx rubbish show you usually see.

Rise and Fall

Happy Lunar new year everyone ! =D

It is a common to see lion dance around in your neighborhood dancing in your neighbor house.
A lion dance troupe came to my house today.

The usual crowding of people at my house when the lion dance appear seems to disappear over the years.
To me, I sense the Rise and fall of an empire.

Why rise and fall of an empire/country?
When a country is doing well, people crowd to go there and economy is good.
When a country is not doing that well, people avoid there and economy is not as good.
( Not that my family is doing badly, Just that my house do not have that usual amount of crowd! )

Today I would like to talk about Republic of Venice and Republic of “Lion City”.

Everyone know that Venice is by the water, good trading port, government is good, good system implemented by the government.
Venice grew with the extensive trading with eurpore and Venetians also gained extensive trading privileges in the Byzantine Empire and their ships often provided the Empire with a navy.
Many in the Empire had become jealous of Venetian power, wealth and influence, rebellion took place in venetian land.

Venice suppressed the rebellion but soon faced external threat from nearby nations.
There is a navy general who was very good in naval warfare. During the war with one nation he won and managed to make the attacking forces to retreat. But due to the “democratic” society and making things fair for people, he was removed from his position and someone else took over and Venice lost its land.

( every 3 years they have to change their position in order to prevent corruption. )

Looking back at history, Is such a way of preventing corruption more important than putting the right people at the right position?

Now look at the present Republic of “Lion City”
Are we walking to a bright future? Or are we walking to where Venice went?

Communication is the key, Don’t you agree?

Story

Let me share a story with everyone.

Once upon a time, there is a kingdom where everyone can vote for their Leader.
Just before election, they promise a lot of good stuffs but they really did deliver it in the end.
After election, they will explain to the people that many things have to be paid for as the nation cannot supply that much help.

For transport, there are private and public transport.
The Councilors are smart. They want to let more taxes be collected from all various ways and be kept in the treasury for emergency use( such as war, since they are always in war) so they came out with a plan.

Private transport – They tax heavily on private transport as they want to take more money from the rich instead of taking money from everyone.
Public transport – They always try to keep the transport cheap by giving concession or some other help.

Here is the ironic part. When many people can afford private transport they tax more, forcing more people to take public transport.
When there are too many people in public transport, they have to up the fare as more labor and services increase.
So this cycle remains and it persist through out their life.

leaflet spread around by the country officials help to brainwash everyone in the kingdom that they are receving their best! Their tone and words use help in changing the people’s mindset. They often like to use what communicators call “ambiguity : When not making sense makes sense.”

Well…. they eventually win in a major war with neighboring nations and dominated the region.

So this story is telling you… many things are happening there for a reason!
MY STORY IS INSPIRED BY MY FRIEND AND DO NOT THINK TOO MUCH!

Even after many of such things happening, they seems to gain support from the people nevertheless, even I support them.
The way they use to communicate is superb, many tactic were employed, such as the words used, making public speeches to pacify the people.

Current Affairs

Finally I get some time to do some blogging. My first Blog =).

Right … to the topic I am going to discuss here is on current affairs.

With the recent sub-prime causing the currency and prices on lots of things to increase, Who will say they are not affected?

Our small little dot on the world map, densely populated.
Our Land continue to expand through land reclamation but the speed of more land appearing in Singapore seems to be slower than the growing population we have!

With the fare hike on Public transport and ERP, how are the people going to survive?
Bleah… maybe things are not as bad as everyone think.
Many help have been given by the nation !
Many Policies are there to make sure we can survive when we are old !

BUT…….

Not to worry people.. we can TIDE THROUGH THIS !

One People, One Nation
